From the recording Burnt
This is a song about a girl who has got into a relationship with a guy who she already had had a failed relationship with previously. Unfortunately this time around it also turned out badly for her she was "Burnt" by this guy a second time - but she is determined to fight back and move forward from this difficult experience.
The song features strong and impactful vocals from wonderful Italian female vocalist, Dee Wolf.
The song has a blues rock/southern rock feel with shades of the Black Keys, Linda Perry and Florence+The Machine
Lyrics
BURNT by Collo
VERSE 1
The cinders on my feet’s soles leave a trail of footsteps black;
But I’ll keep moving forward, no I’m never turning back.
There’s no phoenix rising for me, from the ashes of despair;
Coz I have been here once before and don’t want to go back there.
CHORUS 1
I have been so burnt boy;
I have been badly flamed;
You did it to me once before;
So I must also share the blame.
I have been so burnt boy;
I have been badly flamed;
I’ll leave this smoking ruin;
And my life will be reclaimed.
VERSE 2
“Do not play with fire”, they teach you when you’re young;
I must have missed that lesson, my punishment’s begun.
You gave me many pretty words, and I believed them whole;
You took my hand and led me on, I was in with heart and soul
CHORUS 2
I have been so burnt boy;
I have been badly flamed;
You did it to me once before;
So I must also share the blame.
I have been so burnt boy;
I have been badly flamed;
I’ll leave this smoking ruin;
And my life will be reclaimed.
BREAKDOWN
[The cinders on my feet’s soles leave a trail of footsteps black;
But I’ll keep moving forward, no I’m never turning back……..oh no]
VERSE 3
I leave my golden mantle, a charred and smoking mess;
I leave my self-esteem, in a state of some distress.
I survey a red horizon, seeking signs of rain;
To soothe my blistered skin and to wash away my pain.
CHORUS 3
I have been so burnt boy;
I have been badly flamed;
You did it to me once before;
So I must also share the blame.
I have been so burnt boy;
I have been badly flamed;
I’ll leave this smoking ruin;
And my life will be reclaimed.
BRIDGE
I should have known much better, why go back there once more?
And I have been so burnt again, in an unwanted encore.
Don’t follow my blackened footsteps, they only show the way;
Down a dark dead-end street of regret and cliché.
OUTRO
I have been so burnt boy;
I have been badly flamed;
You did it to me once before;
So I must also share the blame.
I have been so burnt boy;
I have been badly flamed;
I’ll leave this smoking ruin;
And my life will be reclaimed.
I have been so burnt boy;
I have been so burnt;
I have been so burnt boy;
I have been so burnt;
I have been so burnt boy;
I have been so burnt;
I have been so burnt boy……
