This song is about a prisoner of war who is being kept in the dark and then emotionally abused through the use of a bright light form of torture. As the song progresses the prisoner begins to wonder if they can hold out or if in fact they can retain their sanity.

Lyrics

THE LIGHT

VERSE 1
Darkness and silence have been keeping me company
The sound of key in lock and rough hands I cannot see
More footsteps in the corridor – this is a psychological war
That I’ve slowly started going insane isn’t hard to ignore

VERSE 2
Questions with answers that I don’t want to give
“You’re testing my patience, surely you want to live?”
I can handle the pain, the hunger and the cold
Oh God I beg you please don’t remove my blindfold

CHORUS
Oh the light
The bright burning light
Please no more light no, no
Oh the light
The bright burning light
Please no more light no, no

VERSE 3
Will I sell myself for darkness, the question still remains?
What’s the colour of the blood that’s running through my veins?
Voices raised in anger “I can’t speak no-more sir”
I know what’s coming next and dread what will occur

CHORUS
Oh the light
The bright burning light
Please no more light no, no
Oh the light
The bright burning light
Please no more light no, no

BRIDGE
I guess they know it – they’re getting to me
I’m slowly breaking – the light is blinding
I’ll try to hang on – protect this nation
But I cannot change this situation
There is a dark pool on my cell floor
I’m quietly drowning then I am no more

CHORUS
Oh the light
The bright burning light
Please no more light no, no
Oh the light
The bright burning light
Please no more light no, no, no
